Miss Belgium 'Virginie Claes' meets The Oakcity Jazzband

Miss Belgium 'Virginie Claes' meets The Oakcity Jazzband Did you see The Oakcity Jazzband in the Belgian TV één-show "De Rode Loper"? Virginie Claes, our "Miss Belgium" came to Maasmechelen Village, and we met her there! We changed our song "Rosie" into "Virginie" for this occasion, and that became the musictrack on television. We are waiting for digital images from photographers and the editorial staff of "De Rode Loper", but here we show some images taken from TV. Hubaer -of course- is very, very happy that he was on TV together with Virginie, so nice. Check our site for more: http://www.oakcity.be/

NORTH SEA JAZZ 2006 IN AHOY' ROTTERDAM

NORTH SEA JAZZ 2006 IN AHOY' ROTTERDAMNorth Sea Jazz 2006 will take place in Rotterdam. We’re moving, because we don’t want to endanger our well-tried festival concept. North Sea Jazz must be - and remain to be - what it has become in the past 30 years: a festival of both musical and organizational quality. TRIPPIN' New Cool Collective's new 2CD album

TRIPPIN' New Cool Collective's new 2CD album "Finally we recorded some songs again!" the satisfied members of the New Cool Collective say. This is their fifth album, and they struggled to find the time to record it.New Cool Collective was born in 1994 when these eight cool musicians ignited the Amsterdam club scene and then set fire to the rest of the Dutch music scene, spreading the heat rapidly to international festivals. From the start they were hot and never cooled down, releasing albums, winning the Edison Jazz Award in 2000 (the Dutch Grammy) and touring extensively. Whether playing at the London Jazz Café, North Sea Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, or at clubs in Istanbul, Budapest, Letland, Estland, Vienna, Uganda and Russia, the band's steaming mix of highly danceable soul and jazz spiced with Latin flavors has turned on clubbers and jazz buffs alike.

SOESJA CITROEN : DON'T CRY BABY

SOESJA CITROEN : DON'T CRY BABY
A message posted by Soesja Citroen:

DON'T CRY BABY

Line-up :
Soesja Citroen
- vocals
Berend van den Berg - pian
Ruud Ouwehand - bass

New release by Challenge Jazz Records of Soesja's 3rd CD as singer-songwriter
'Don't cry Baby' CHR 70127, with 16 new songs.
Soesja starts a new tour for 2006/07.

Penguin Guide writers Richard Cook and Brian Morton awarded the maximum of 4 * and wrote in 2005 about Citroen:
- Leading singer on the Dutch scene.
- This is a hugely exciting album, worthy of the widest notice.
- CD, which carries off its bruised romanticism with great conviction.
- The title song Song for Ma is magnificent.
- Time she was better known outside her native country.
Bruce Crowther reviewed in 2004 the CD Soesja Sings Citroen:
Soesja Citroen, a strikingly good singer from The Netherlands. She is also a very good songwriter as is demonstrated on this set as Soesja presents fifteen of her own love songs , all of which are melodically pleasing and have intelligent lyrics. Soesja's sound is mature and assured and the interplay with the clarinet and alto saxophone of Michael Moore is delightful.
David Lewis wrote in CADENCE:
The atmospheric ballad "Place of Silence" is a superb song that shows why she deserves recognition as a composer.
Marcela Breton wrote in JAZZ TIMES:
Dutch vocalist and songwriter Citroen shows herself a formidable composer.
Patricia Myers wrote also in JAZZ TIMES:
She's absolutely sensational and I hope she arrives on our side of the Atlantic very soon.
The German jazzmagazine JazzPodium called Soesja an European Top Jazzsinger.
Alex Henderson wrote in the All Music Guide:
The thoughtful nature of her English lyrics on her originals seems all the more impressive when you take into account that English is not her native language.

Jazzfestival Enkhuizen 2006

Brothers in Jazz

Tony Frank and his Tucson Jazz Radio Project aim to return America's original art form to the airwaves
Jazz lovers, there's hope. Listen carefully, and you might hear a faint riff growing louder. Perhaps America's original art form will continue to have a place in the Old Pueblo after all, thanks to the efforts of die-hard jazzman Tony Frank and his Tucson Jazz Radio Project. Currently, the music is available via computer streaming at www.TucsonJazzRadio.org, but Federal Communications Commission paperwork is in the works to obtain a real radio station frequency. "Somebody's got to get in front of it and speak up, or we'll all be stuck with Britney Spears," Frank says.
